Ambulance auction could be quids in

A one-off auction looks set to raise hundreds of pounds for a Worcester charity. More than 80 lots will go under the hammer when Chiron Volunteer Ambulance holds a fund-raising auction on Sunday.

Z is for ZIP WIRES

When all else fails, the ultimate cure for holiday frustration is to scream at the top of your voice and throw yourself from a great height. Then the kids can do it too. Lots of centres offer zip wires, high-rope courses and a variety of treetop thrills, but the undisputed king of the jungle is Go Ape which now has 22 centres across the country. Our favourite is Aberfoyle, in Stirlingshire, simply because its three-hour course (£25/£20) culminates in the UK's longest zip - 1,300ft of terror (and very pretty scenery). Go Ape wins Responsible Tourism award

Go Ape High Wire Forest Adventure, with a course at Margam Country Park, near Port Talbot, has been announced winner of the Responsible Tourism award category in the TravelMole 2009 Web Awards.
TravelMole, the largest global online community for the travel and tourism industry, announced the winners and presented trophies on Wednesday 24 June 2009 at an awards ceremony attended by around 200 people from across the industry at Canada House in London. Read more
Scottish Schools Championship at Loch Earn Sailing Club

Loch Earn Sailing Club celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Brown Cup on Monday the 15th of June. 59 boats turned up for this annual Schools Championships hosted by LESC since 1959.
Dr Kinloch very kindly provided sponsorship for this year's event, providing commemorative 50th anniversary medals, rash vests, t-shirts for all the competitors and helpers plus some fantastic prizes for the winners.
Thanks must also go to Musto, gforce sailing, RYA Scotland, Laser Scotland & www.goape.co.uk, who supported the event and helped Loch Earn Sailing Club to celebrate the 50th anniversary in style. Read more
Officers from Sale Neighbourhood Policing Team invite Trafford youngsters to Go Ape

Youngsters joined officers from Sale Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) to tackle a series of gravity-defying obstacles. Six officers were paired with young people aged 11 to 16 as they attempted to navigate zip-wires, rope ladders and treetop tunnels at Go Ape Adventure Park in Delamere Forest, Cheshire.
The trip, organised by Trafford Housing Trust youth involvement worker, Hazel O'Keefe, aimed to build better relationships between officers and youngsters in St Mary's West and Ashton-on-Mersey. Read more

Princes Trust business challenge boosts employees' skills

15 jobs created with opening of tree-top adventure centre

A NEW high-wire adventure centre for thrill-seekers has been launched in Worcestershire creating 15 new jobs.
Go Ape was opened by members of Kidderminster Harriers football team, who cut a ribbon and then set off to swing through the trees on the course 40ft above the forest floor. Read more here
Help conquer your fears on high-wire treetop adventure

If you're scared of heights, leaping out of 40ft trees and flying down zip slides may not be your idea of fun.
But some people have conquered their fear by taking part in Go Ape, a high-wire forest adventure with sites all over the country.
Despite her initial fear of heights, Louise Latham, who lives near Kenton, has taken part in the course four times - once in the Lake District and three times at Haldon Forest, near Exeter. Read more here
Wyre Forest centre slams 'cotton wool kids' culture

A Wyre Forest adventure centre has reacted to a survey that says the countryside is out of bounds to a generation of "cotton wool kids".
The survey by Natural England found less than 10 per cent of children played in natural open spaces, compared with 40 per cent of adults when they were young. Read more here

During last Friday's off day at RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath, several Americans were hanging around at Go Ape.
"It's awesome," said Senior Airman Joshua Weathers, who works for the 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Mildenhall. "It's real physical. It tests your nerve and fear of heights." Read more here
